Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for the Production and Supply of Cells and Battery Packs for Saipa Electric Vehicles with MAPNA

Saipa Automotive Group and MAPNA Group signed a memorandum of understanding to produce and supply cells and battery packs for electric vehicles, with the aim of using new technologies and electrifying Saipa Group’s passenger and commercial vehicles.

In a joint meeting held on October 25, 2023, hosted by MAPNA, the CEO of MAPNA Electrification and Energy Storage Development Company (MIDCO) and the CEO of Saipa Automotive Industries Research and Innovation Center, representing MAPNA Group and Saipa Automotive Group, signed a memorandum of understanding to produce and supply cells and battery packs for electric vehicles.

According to the terms of the memorandum, using the products of the MIDCO factory on behalf of MAPNA Group, various types of cells and battery packs will be supplied for Saipa Company’s electric vehicles.

Gasoline consumption and pollution levels will decrease with the production of electric vehicles

In this meeting, which was attended by a group of senior managers of MAPNA Group and Saipa Automotive Group, “Mohammad Ali Teymouri”, CEO of Saipa Automotive Group, while expressing his pleasure at MAPNA’s presence, considered the move towards hybrid and electric vehicles to be one of the most important infrastructures of countries in the world today. Referring to the success of some countries in developing electric vehicles, he emphasized the necessity of controlling fuel consumption in the country.

Referring to some shortcomings, he added: “Over the past 21 months, efforts have been made to develop the infrastructure of Saipa Automotive Group.”

The CEO of Saipa Automotive Group considered the price of energy in Iran to be cheaper compared to other countries and stated: Most of the equipment and machinery used for the current products of Saipa Group dates back to the 1970s and their energy consumption is high. However, by modernizing the machinery that is on the agenda, energy consumption can be drastically reduced.

He added: For example, in order to be able to follow this path quickly, the German government announced that any group that can develop infrastructure will receive subsidies, and as a result, a large volume of German infrastructure was updated.

Pointing out that by using the power of the specialized company MAPNA, it is possible to move towards developing infrastructure and reducing emissions in the 1400s, Teymouri said: The same path that Japan and China took in producing electric and hybrid cars can be implemented in the country and modern electric cars can be produced and marketed. With the production of electric vehicles, gasoline consumption and pollution levels will decrease. If such a procedure is not followed, it is not unreasonable for the country’s gasoline consumption to reach 200 million liters per day in a short period of three years and eventually become one of the largest gasoline importers in the world.

He clarified: Last year, we started cooperation with MAPNA in this field and commercial and public vehicles. This year, too, with the positive developments in the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade, the policymaking framework in the automotive field is changing.

In conclusion, the CEO of Saipa Automotive Group expressed hope for this joint cooperation and considered the 1400s to be the decade of comprehensive transportation infrastructure development.

MAPNA continues to develop the field of electrification of vehicles and its infrastructure

Following this meeting, the CEO of MAPNA Group also emphasized the need to pay attention to the development of electric vehicles for environmental reasons and explained the role of MAPNA Group in the areas of electric vehicle engine development and infrastructure such as charging stations.

Mohammad Auliya expressed hope for the fruitfulness of the bilateral cooperation between MAPNA and SAIPA, and referred to the MAPNA Group’s history of activity in various energy fields, saying: MAPNA entered the transportation field in the mid-1980s, and given the importance of influencing energy and the energy economy, it began developing this field in the rail industry, electric buses, electric vehicles, and charging and battery infrastructure.

Dr. Olia stated: In recent years, with the positive vision of the management, MAPNA has moved towards the electrification industry and will continue to develop the field of electrification of vehicles and its infrastructure based on its strategies.

Dr. Mohammad Olia, CEO of MAPNA Group, emphasizing MAPNA Group’s activities in the field of clean energy production, said: It is essential to further enhance the field of growth and production of clean energy in the automotive industry through multilateral cooperation with domestic and foreign companies.

Recalling that efforts have been made to develop infrastructure and apply new technologies to provide the basis for the production and growth of electric vehicles in the country, he stated: Given the national vision that has been formed regarding the electrification of passenger and commercial vehicles, MAPNA Company can use its full potential to realize this important goal and benefit from new technologies.

Emphasizing the new policies of the Ministry of Transportation in the field of electric vehicles, he noted: Despite entering the field of electric transportation infrastructure, we have not yet seen the expected acceleration in the field of commercialization; however, this year, with the new approach of the Ministry of Transportation and the welcome of the Tehran Municipality, as well as the support of the country’s automakers, we expect more acceleration in this field and we hope that the obstacles and restrictions will be removed and our hands will be more open for mass production of various products in the electric vehicle industry.

Referring to the establishment of the MAPNA Electrification and Energy Storage Development Company (MIDCO), the CEO of MAPNA Group said: Since this company was established two years ago to produce batteries, we have not had a very high development speed due to some obstacles, but now, despite the welcome of automakers, we can increase the diversity and development of new products according to market demand and put commercialization and mass production on the agenda.

At the end of this ceremony, a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of production and supply of cells and battery packs for electric vehicles of the Saipa Automotive Group was signed by “Alireza Tokali”, CEO of MAPNA Electrification and Energy Storage Development Company (MIDCO), and “Seyed Shahin Azbi”, CEO of the Saipa Automotive Industries Research and Innovation Center.

It is worth noting that the purpose of this memorandum is to produce and supply cells and battery packs for electric vehicles of the Saipa Automotive Group using the products of the MIDCO factory, as well as feasibility study, design, development, testing, production and supply of various cells and battery packs for electric and hybrid vehicles of the Saipa Company.
